Sex equality continued

On 22th, June the Parliament has adopted the Senate’s amendments to the act amending the Polish labor code. The statute was assented by the President on 11th, July. The amendment would lift the ban on women to work on particular posts which were thought to be “masculine” and at the same time would modify the list of works which are prohibited for pregnant women and nursing women.

According to the current version of the article 176 of the Polish labor code, it is prohibited to hire women in arduous work conditions. European Commission held that this ruling is discriminative, because since it refers to all women, not only to pregnant women and nursing women, it constitutes an obstacle in providing sex equality, especially in the scope of an access to employment.
